[ I despise Shinon as a character. As a unit, he’s amazing, but as a character I think he is insufferably arrogant, disgustingly prejudiced and unnecessarily rude to everyone. And the fact that he is allowed to insult the laguz in Radiant Dawn without recourse, in my opinion, reflects badly on Ike as a commander. ]

But yeah, I’m actually rather glad that PoR had characters who were not nice people who were still on the ‘good side army’. I bet everyone knows an asshat in real life that -when push comes to shove- will still do the right thing.
Then there’s Lethe as well to a lesser extent, yet I don’t hear too many folks complaining about her abrasive personality. Oh, and Soren. My goodness, Soren. Somehow he ended up the darling of the entire fandom, despite his personality in many ways to be worse than Shinon’s? If I recall right, Shinon actually never -in game- almost killed a laguz for so much as looking at Ike wrong.
That doesn’t excuse Shinon, of course - as he is an asshat. But if you’re going to despise one person for a bad attitude, might as well despise the others with the exact same attitude.
To be fair, Soren and Lethe sorta get over the giant racist chips on their shoulders. They clearly have biases even in Radiant Dawn, but they do grow and prejudice doesn’t just fade away in a day, after all. Also Mordy did a little more than just look at Ike funny, though Soren still major overreacted. And both have better excuses for racism than Shinon. Stubborn Shinon stays an absolute douche til the end of time. He’s more realistic that way. Some people simply do not grow out of prejudices.
